We are blessed! Last week Hope for Atlanta’s Program Director, Angela Campbell, looked over our records for 2006-2007, and we rejoiced as the numbers were added up: This year 134 volunteers helped us. Some were parents, but most of our volunteers came from outside the Latino community. They represented all ages, from teens to retirees, and they gave as little as one hour to more than 15 hours every week. Volunteers came from many Christian fellowships and organizations, while our Lord provided materials and food through a wide variety of individuals and organizations.
Through 8 programs — After School, Kids Club, ESL, Pre-K, Soccer Club, Chess Academy, Summer Reading Program, and Mom’s Support Group — we served more than 400 persons! Our Pre-K program, begun in March, prepared 8 children (and their parents) for kindergarten or first grade. We helped several children from the Kids Club apply and prepare for the Salvation Army camp and the Genesis Bible Church’s music camp. Our popular Soccer Club now includes 100 children and 3 parent/coaches. We also hosted a Health Fair, and a community cookout that was attended by 200 people. Hope for Atlanta also participated in community events led by the local police departments, Salvation Army, apartment managers, and a youth mission group from Decatur, Alabama. The young missionaries from Alabama conducted a Vacation Bible School during which 7 children and 2 adults accepted the Lord. We distributed 25 Bibles and 100 New Testaments. Tim continues working with the needy of our area providing food, referrals and assistance of all kinds through the Atlanta Intercultural Ministries. Finally, we acknowledge that all the ministries of Hope for Atlanta were made possible through the generosity of our donors; by many, many hours given by our volunteers; and in the strength of our Lord Jesus Christ. Pray with us for our community! |

Hope for Atlanta Kids’ Summer Activities: Summer Reading Program: More than 35 children came to the Summer Reading on Tuesday, Thursday, and/or Friday afternoons during June to improve their reading skills. At the end of the program, children made oversized cards of appreciation to the volunteers who helped them. |

Camping experiences: I loved the camp and miss the counselors! I’d like to be in camp for more than a week next year.— Carlos Castillo I was so happy when they called my name to be part of the Princess Court at camp! — Daisy At a service of dedication and prayer for needs, most of our H4A children who were fortunate enough to attend the camp went to the altar to pray. Four of our Hope for Atlanta regulars attended a Music Camp at Genesis Bible Church and performed in the closing program. |
