Melvin – goes to church with us on Sunday’s |
|
Dear Friends, The new boy at our Kids Club told me something I couldn’t understand. Another boy standing close by said: “Oh, he’s deaf.” Now I understood why the boy was frustrated so much of the time. This same boy is being helped in our After School Program with his math homework where we discovered he didn’t know how to add and subtract “big” numbers. After a little one-on-one tutoring, he grasped the idea. When I talk with him now, his eyes are brighter, and he shows more confidence. He is just one of the more than 60 kids who come to our Kids Club. Kids Club is where kids learn about God’s grace and their need for a personal relationship with Him. All of the kids see our Hope apartment as their place to come on Friday afternoon. When we don’t have Kids Club one week, they are disappointed and ask why not? The ‘Alma Fuerte’ soccer club is going great, too. We have practice three times a week and games twice a week. Most of our five teams (of different ages) play against the City of Doraville soccer teams. In addition to our After School homework/study class, Kids Club, and Soccer Club, we conduct women's groups, English classes, a Pre-Kindergarten, Health Ministry, and Summer Reading. These programs help us work together with the neighbors in and around Huntington Station apartments to construct a strong community. We look forward to two church youth groups doing ‘backyard’ Bible clubs this summer. As we preach the Gospel of Jesus Christ by both word and deed, we are very thankful for the many volunteers who come to help us, including those from the community we serve. Pray with us that many more of the people we serve will make professions of faith in Christ. Please pray for Angela and I as we are raising support to continue and expand Hope for Atlanta. Tim was working in another organization helping Latinos in northeast Atlanta and needs to replace that income. By the end of May, 2008 we must raise $3,000.00 per month. Could you help with $25.00, $50.00, or any other amount? Your donations are tax deductible. Click Here to Donate. Thank you for praying with us and for your support!
