“I never wanted the summer to end, never,” Carlos declared. He attended the reading program in June and was one of the 16 kids from our Kids Club who went to summer camp at the Grandview Salvation Army Camp near Jasper, Georgia. But summer ended and Hope for Atlanta’s fall programs began – the After School sessions, Friday Kids Club, Support group for Moms, Pre-Kindergarten, and our big hit for this year, the Soccer Club. God is so good to bless us with the opportunity to serve these children and families! In Kids Club we have 40 children and youth. Tim teaches the new teenage class, a great opportunity to explain good character traits based on Biblical concepts, giving each youngster the opportunity to meet the Lord and grow in faith. We are studying the Gospel of John. In one of our lessons, the kids discovered for the first time from John 3 what it means to be born again! In the elementary school group, Dorothy Felker has been a great help as she teaches using the Bible-based Confident Kids curriculum. All of the kids believe that this is a ‘cool’ place to come. Pray that the Lord works in their hearts and in their families! |

The Pre-Kindergarten transitional program has ten children enrolled three days a week. The program is very popular with the mothers and has a long waiting list. The children who finished our Pre-Kindergarten class last spring are doing great in kindergarten this year; two of them share first place in their public school class! |

The After School Program is in dire need of tutors to help children with homework on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 3:30 to 5:00. The good news is that some Lakeside High School National Honor Society students will be helping us this year. Perhaps you know of someone who can help in 2008? |

But the most popular program this year is the Alma Fuerte (Strong Soul) Soccer Club. Ninety-two children registered to play in four age-appropriate teams led by two men who live at the Huntington Station Apartments. Other padres (parents) help as well. We are working together with the community to develop a healthy, drug and gang-free place to live. This is really what community development is all about! There is so much going on in the lives of the families at Hope for Atlanta. With God’s help, we meet many of the people’s needs, such as helping with homework, legal problems, food, or a lack of food or other necessities. Sharing our lives with the people we work with give us the opportunity to share God’s love and grace with those we serve. We pray that the Gospel of Christ during this Christmas season will impact every life that your contributions and our lives touch. Thank you for your prayers! –Tim and Angela Campbell |
